Thankfully we still have nothing much to report. Jack's swelling has continued to go down so he looks much more like himself this morning. He's also getting more and more alert. It breaks my heart when he gets upset and cries and no sound comes out. It's hard not to be able to do much to soothe him, but he usually settles down pretty quick. The nurse last night added some toys and a little music machine in his crib so those help as well.
They still don't have a set time for when they will close him today, but Dr. Kaza is hoping to do it in the early afternoon.

i am so happy things are going so well so far - it's a long road ahead, but at least you are getting off to a good start. i only have a small understanding of the nicu and how it feels to be helpless and not be able to take care of your own child. luckily jack has such great nurses to help you take care of him. my assistant mentioned you stopped by my office the other day - i will be here until you checkout, so let me know if you need anything at all. take care of yourselves so you can take care of that sweet baby.
Hey, guys! We are so happy that Baby Jack is doing so well! It sounds like you are doing great and that makes us happy, too! Hopefully we'll get to see him again soon!

No news is good news! So glad that all went well over the weekend. Hopefully we will get to see Baby Jack soon. We are looking forward to it!
We continue to watch Jack get strong and happy... just a little longer until he can wrestle with Alex.... We can't wait... Good luck on closure today.. We are hoping it goes sooooooooo smoothly...
I love it that you confidently say already 'much more like himself' - at one week! Go Mom and Dad!
I remember that soundless cry- it's so hard. It would break our hearts when he even opened his eyes, because it made him seem so aware of what was going on, and I'd rather he just sleep through it all.
Jack seems to be right on schedule though- we are so impressed by him. It was only two weeks after closing his chest that our Jack came home. So you guys are on the right path!
