9 Months Old!

My baby is turning into a little boy. His hair is getting thicker, he sits up like a pro, and he loves to eat just about everything (hurray!) He's also getting a bit sassy and throws a little fit when he doesn't get his way. But to compentsate for the sassiness, he's learning to wave and give hugs and big open mouthed kisses. Such a fun stage. Still no crawling or standing on his legs, but he definitely knows what he wants and is trying to get there, so I have the feeling we're getting closer.

We had Jack's 9 month pediatrician visit this week. He is now 28 inches (45%) and 18 lbs 10 oz (25% - and that was right after a big bottle and a bowl of mac & cheese). It's funny, everyone always comments on how chunky he is due to those big kissable cheeks and round thighs, but he's really not that big. He's just perfect though. The dr said he looks fantastic, and I couldn't agree more. We don't have any more doctors appointments until AUGUST and those are just check ups with his ped and cardiologist. Oh how wonderful to have a doctor free summer after going at least every 3-4 weeks.

We also took Jack to a pediatric urologist earlier this week to discuss getting him circumcised since we weren't able to do it when he was tiny. After talking with the doctor who said it would be pretty straight forward but recommended against it, and chatting with some of my friends on Monday night who several mentioned their kids had not had it done, we have decided just to leave him like he is. Hardy's argument in favor of it is that he can name every kid in his high school who wasn't and Jack is going to have enough scars to deal with in the locker room. But the doctor said it is much less common than it used to be (which we realized was true after talking with my friends), and locker rooms are different than when we went to high school. They would have to intubate and sedate him again, and he'd be sore for a while, and we decided we just don't want to put him through one more thing. We hope he won't hate us for this decision when he's a teenager.

It was great to see you on Monday. I love that Jack would let me hold him. He is adorable!! It's probably a relief to not have to worry about 1 more thing.

Yay for Jack! So glad that he is doing well, and growing great! How nice to be able to stay out of the Dr's office! We haven't been in months, and it's Heavenly!

I am glad he is doing so well. As for as the urologist goes, if he needs to be sedated for a heart cath or other procedure they can do the circumcision then. Just something to keep in mind for future procedures. But I think the doctor is right that more parents are opting not to have it done. Good luck!

TRUE thing about the circumcision. My husband said "now way!" from the beginning. I was watching "The Doctors" and the statistics were like 40% of boys now are NOT getting circumcised. I don't think our little guys will have any problems.

Aimee- I've been meaning to leave a comment for a while but I'm not the best at comment leaving. Your Jack is adorable- isn't amazing how fast they grow? I just love watching them learn and discover new things. It's fun to read about how things are going in your world, you're amazing. -Wendy

Those boy parts are a question. I left it up to the hubs. After tons of research we decided we didn't want to teach him the cleaning (I felt like a perv) So Gator had his done at 14 months old. Durring a sedated Echo. He was only cranky for one day and his pain was well taken care of. Here is one sight I did research on... nocirc.org... It was an in and out proceedure... I wish all could be that simple. We took him home the same day. I did decide that it is a very personal decision. Maybe one he can make when he is older. You are his momma and daddy so your decision is BEST. I just wanted to give you a "good-outcome-heart- baby" story.

Let me share with you- our quick story about Jack's circumcision- Jack was 3 months old, we took him to the pediatrician. I love our pediatrician, dearly, but he didn't really think about the fact that Jack had been on aspirin his whole life. So after he performed the op and sent us home, we slept for 2 hours, then woke up to Jack bleeding out of his diaper. He NEVER clotted. So we rushed him back up, and our Dr. had to sew 24 stitches around Jack's poor little penis.

Talk about a complex..

I respect your decision.
