Jackson was born August 2008 with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS), a rare congenital heart defect affecting the left ventrical and aorta. Three days after he was born he had the first of three open heart surgeries at Primary Children's Medical Center in Salt Lake City, UT. In January 2009 he had his 2nd surgery, the Glenn, and in May 2012 he had his third open heart surgery, the Fontan. He is currently doing great and you would hardly know he's anything but perfectly healthy. He's sweet, cute, and as wonderful as they come and such a joy in our lives.
They just gave us our first update. They have made their incision and started the procedure. He got on the heart lung machine and he seems to be doing ok. They are now going to start to update us every hour or so.
I think it's nice you are able to get updates throughout the surgery. Our son's hospital doesn't do updates (unless something goes wrong) until surgery is over so we just had to sit and wait all that time! We're still praying for you all as you wait for each update and wait to finally see Jack again. You're also fortunate that they have "warned" you ahead of time about what he'll look like afterwards - we weren't warned at all and were in for quite a big shock!
You are so brave to be going through this! In every entry, you sound poised and calm and patient and very full of faith and trust in the Lord. Your little guy is BEAUTIFUL--so sweet and alert. I have been praying for you all and will continue to do so throughout this difficult day.
